Not technology - just living

Erica also talked about technology is not technology to the students of today. Just as we don't refer to the telephone as 'technology' because it's always been around, the students of today have always had laptops and cellphones and ipods, so they don't refer to it as 'technology' ... to them it is just living. What does that mean for teachers? What does it mean to teach someone who does not consider a laptop 'new technology'? What does it mean to teach someone who goes home from school and creates web content collaboratively, without ever being taught how by a teacher?

  1. I think we, as teachers, need to relax where technology is concerned as it is 'normal' for our students to use technologies quite naturally. We need to know how to change our pedagogy in order to maximise the use of technologies in our classrooms.

  2. I agree with you, we need to almost 'forget' the technology. In terms of changing our pedagogy, I wonder what that will look like? Obviously teaching more from the back of the room, but what else do we need to change?

  3. It is normal for our students but we, as teachers, will need support to learn ow to use it as more than an information gathering and processing tool. How do we best provide and access that support?
